Improving Carers’ Access to Health and Social Care Services in Wirral

To mark Carers Rights Day 2025, Healthwatch Wirral launched a survey to better understand unpaid Carers’ experiences and the challenges they face when accessing health and social care support.
Despite an estimated 40,000 unpaid Carers in Wirral, many remain unidentified by services and therefore miss out on essential support such as Carer’s assessments, digital health tools, and clear information about their rights.
Our findings highlight a need for:
- Better and earlier identification of Carers
- More Carer‑inclusive GP and primary care services
- Improved access to digital health tools
- Clearer, more accessible information about Carers’ rights
As services increasingly move online, it’s vital that digital tools are inclusive and supported by non-digital options to avoid widening existing inequalities.
