About The Court Care Home, Hoylake

Healthwatch Wirral carried out an Enter and View visit to The Court Care Home in Hoylake. The Home provides accommodation and personal care for younger and elderly adults living with dementia and is registered for up to 17 residents. At the time of our visit, 13 residents were living at the Home. The Court is operated by Ryding Care Services Limited, which also runs neighbouring care homes The Lodge and Palm Court Residential Home.

The Home has recently undergone refurbishment and redecoration to improve the environment for residents, visitors and staff, with further improvements planned, including upgrades to outdoor furniture, staff development, dining experiences and family engagement activities.

Report Summary

Healthwatch Wirral Authorised Representatives found The Court Care Home to be a welcoming and homely environment where residents appeared well cared for. The Home was observed to be clean, tidy and well maintained in most areas, with comfortable communal spaces, dementia-friendly signage and personalised bedrooms designed to help residents feel at home.

During the visit, staff were seen treating residents and visitors with dignity and respect, and interactions were positive and focused on residents’ wellbeing. Managers described a range of systems to support residents’ health and safety, including falls prevention measures, regular care plan reviews, oral health assessments, weekly GP support, and access to specialist healthcare services where needed.

Residents told Healthwatch representatives that they enjoyed living at the Home, liked the food, and were happy with their rooms. Family members spoken to during the visit were also positive about the care their relative had received.

The visit identified several examples of good practice, including ongoing refurbishment work, strong staff retention, dementia-friendly approaches and a commitment to supporting residents’ health and wellbeing. Healthwatch Wirral also made recommendations to further enhance resident safety, comfort and experience, including improvements to signage, hand hygiene prompts, ventilation, maintenance, cleanliness and staff training.
