About St. George’s Nursing Home

Healthwatch Wirral carried out an Enter and View visit to St George’s Nursing Home in Liscard, Wallasey. The Home provides nursing, dementia, elderly and end-of-life care and can accommodate up to 50 residents. At the time of the visit, 43 people were living at the Home.

Recent years have seen significant investment in the building, including refurbishment of communal spaces and bedrooms, with further improvements planned for the future.

Report Summary

Healthwatch Wirral Authorised Representatives found St George’s Nursing Home to be a clean, welcoming and well-maintained environment with a clear commitment to continuous improvement. Bedrooms, bathrooms and communal areas appeared fresh, comfortable and dementia-friendly.

During the visit, HWWARs observed staff treating residents with dignity and respect, with positive interactions throughout the Home. Staff appeared well supported, worked effectively as a team and spoke positively about their roles.

The Home offers a range of activities and wellbeing opportunities, including crafts, reading groups, bingo, exercise sessions and community outings. Management also described robust systems for safeguarding, falls prevention, care planning and infection prevention and control.

Although HWWARs were unable to speak with residents or relatives on the day, family satisfaction surveys reviewed during the visit contained positive feedback. The Home maintains regular communication with families and operates an open-door visiting policy.
