Have Your Say on the Future of Adult Social Care

The Government’s independent Casey Commission on Adult Social Care wants to hear from people across England about how care and support services should work in the future. Through a nationwide engagement programme called The Big Conversation, you can share your experiences and views to help shape future reforms. The Commission is looking at how the current social care system works and what needs to change to better support people in the years ahead.

What is The Big Conversation?

The Big Conversation is a national consultation being run by the Casey Commission. It aims to gather views from the public, people who use care services, unpaid carers, families, care staff and professionals.

The Commission is asking some big questions, including:

• What support should people be able to expect?
• Who should receive the most help?
• What role should families play?
• How should care be funded in the future?
• What could a future National Care Service look like?

The conversation will take place in two phases, with the first focusing on people’s values and expectations of care, and the second looking at funding and reform options.

Why take part?

If you have ever used social care services, helped a relative or friend, worked in care, or struggled to find information and support, the Commission wants to hear from you.

The Commission is making a particular effort to hear from unpaid carers, people with disabilities, people from minority communities, rural communities, and others who often face barriers when sharing their views.

We welcome the Prime Minister’s decision to expedite the Casey Commission on social care and relaunch cross-party talks. People tell Healthwatch every day how difficult it is to access care under the current system, and it is vital that long-term reform is brought forward as soon as possible… Our research in 2024 found that up to 1.5 million working-age disabled people may be entitled to social care but have never received it. The Big Conversation on care, launched today by Baroness Louise Casey, is a welcome step towards ensuring that the experiences of people who draw on care, as well as those who need support but are not receiving it, are at the heart of designing a new social care system.
