Good Environments Matter: Patient-Led Assessments of the Care Environment (PLACE)

News - 12 October 2023

On 11th October Healthwatch Staff and Volunteers joined other assessors to support Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust with their assessment. Healthwatch Wirral spent time listening to patients and assessing different wards and areas on the hospital site.

PLACE is about the non-clinical environment covering food, cleanliness, privacy, dignity and wellbeing, condition, appearance and maintenance and how well the organisation supports patients with dementia and disabilities.

Patient Assessors are:

  • Independent of the hospital being assessed
  • Able to communicate clearly with people
  • Objective when gathering evidence
  • Able to present a point of view clearly and reasonably

PLACE results are published a couple of months after the collection closes.
