Tranmere Rovers FC have been selected as one of thirty-two EFL clubs to facilitate a project called tackling loneliness together with the aim of helping people at the highest risk of loneliness and particularly those over the age of seventy.
There are four different strands to the programme that they can offer as a support mechanism which include befriending phone calls, online support, support by post and gate to front door support.
Below are examples of the support they are offering for anyone who may be struggling right now.
Outbound telephone support – for example befriending calls providing reassurance and companionship, and practical advice and signposting.
Online networking – Facebook communities and online social gatherings which could include, for example but not restricted to, coffee mornings, quizzes, bingo, exercise, singing which provide enrichment and enjoyment.
Support by post – to reach people who are not online. This can include messages of support from the club, quizzes, exercise sheets, local contacts.
Face to face conversations – Staff and volunteers having socially distanced conversations with clients ‘at the garden gate’.
Food Hampers – for those that may require help with food.
