Improving independence for people in their own home

Healthwatch Wirral recently carried out research on services provided by Medequip from users of its Community Equipment Loan Service, which operates across the Borough.
Medequip wanted to hear from people who use their service about how it operates with the aim of promoting its commitment to inclusivity and continuous improvement.
Discussions for the collaboration began in early 2023 with Healthwatch Wirral working closely with Medequip to design a satisfaction survey aimed at understanding the needs of people using the Community Equipment Loan Service.
The survey was promoted widely across digital and social platforms, in community forums and other channels to encourage as much participation as possible. It yielded an impressive 454 response, giving a valuable insight into the experiences of people using the service.
Healthwatch Wirral analysed the results and provided a comprehensive report, which has now been published and can be viewed here.
The results are now being analysed and will be used by Medequip, in collaboration with stakeholders, to develop an action plan to enhance the Community Equipment Loan Service.
This plan will focus on addressing areas for improvement identified and aligning the service more closely with the needs of users.
The Healthwatch Wirral team were keen to provide the independent review of the service Medequip provides to people in Wirral to help them stay independent in their home and to share our results. The review highlights how collaboration can drive real change and create services truly shaped by the people who use them.
Engagement Team Representative for Medequip, Alex Robert, said the project “exemplifies the power of co-production and partnership.”
Alex added: “By working closely with Healthwatch Wirral and community organisations, we aim to ensure the voices of the people who use the service are heard and valued.
“We’re excited to translate this feedback into meaningful actions to deliver measurable improvements.”
