Celebrating Volunteers’ Week
News - 04 June 2025
At Healthwatch Wirral, our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. This Volunteers’ Week, we take a moment to recognise and celebrate the incredible people who give their time, energy, and compassion to help improve health and care services across our community.
Our volunteers contribute in so many ways — from engaging with residents to supporting research and helping people find the support they need. They bring dedication, insight, and empathy to their roles, and their impact is felt right across the Borough.
Throughout Volunteers; week, which runs from June 2 – 8th this year, we’ve been sharing stories on our social media from some of our volunteers, offering a glimpse into what volunteering means to them — and what it’s brought to their lives.
Here are just a few of their reflections:
- Dave, our longest-standing volunteer and Authorised Representative:
“I began volunteering after early retirement. It gave me a sense of purpose and helps keep me mentally active. I mainly carry out Enter & View inspections of care homes. I’ve learned a lot from Healthwatch, attended training courses, and get a great sense of achievement from knowing I might help change things for the better.”
- Kerry has been with us for over two years:
“I’ve had amazing learning opportunities and support in my training that’s helped me grow in confidence. Volunteering has brought a lot to my life – helping me feel needed in the community and giving me a real sense of purpose.”
- Kate reflected on how volunteering helped her move forward into a paid role within Healthwatch Wirral and has now begun working with a new organisation:
“Volunteering with Healthwatch Wirral was a turning point for me… I’m now working in a role I never thought I could achieve. This wouldn’t have been possible without the support and belief of the Healthwatch team.”
- Luke also volunteered with us after graduating with his Masters from the University of Liverpool. We are thrilled that he is now an integral member of the team of staff at HWW:
“Every day provided the opportunity to use my skills on different areas of our work. The biggest impression on me is the kindness and commitment of everyone at Healthwatch.”
Each of these stories highlights the value of giving time, being part of a supportive team, and working toward better outcomes for people in Wirral.
We’re incredibly proud of all our volunteers, past and present. Their contribution doesn’t just support our work — it shapes it. Whether they’re behind the scenes or out in the community, their voices, skills, and experiences are at the centre of what we do.
To every one of our volunteers: thank you.
Your commitment helps ensure that local voices are heard, and services are improved for all.
